The Failure of the White Liberal
July 19, 2020
When it comes to dismantling the prison industrial complex, ending prison slave labor, passing the ERA federally, protecting abortion nationally, and desegregating our school systems, it is not the thought that counts; intention is nothing without action.
Contrary to what I used to believe, the civil rights movement did not end because enough significant legislation was passed to end segregation and enforce equality, but rather it ended because the majority of the movement's primary leaders were assassinated.
Therefore the goals of the movement were never achieved, and neither desegregation nor equality were carried out, much in the same way reconstruction was halted in the aftermath of Lincoln's death as well as ensuing political manipulations which re-established black people as second class citizens.
Black people once had the right to vote, and more members of stage legislature, but because of the rollback, civil rights had to take on the issues of reconstruction, in the same way, we must now take on the issues that were rolled back on civil rights.
It is cyclically the failure of the white liberal to continue our involvement in such movements only until enough visible progress has been made, but cease to fight for the rights of our fellow human beings once we are forced to go looking for evidence of racial injustice rather than have it handed to us on an unavoidable platter by racial violence too public to justify our continued lack of significant action without feeling guilty or embarrassed.
However, even during such a compelling time of the need for racial unity in the context of obvious and blatant racial oppression through the tactic of terrorism through the systematic tool of police brutality, I have seen far too many of my supposedly liberal" caring and committed white peers, choose the comfort of their own homes over the risk of participation in protests. As we all know, if one is willing to risk nothing, one is willing to gain nothing. As chris rock once said in an episode of finding your roots, "You are what you have to defend." We, as white liberals must ask ourselves, what then are we? If we are not willing to defend our own fellow human beings. It is not very much to ask young to walk around and yell things for a few hours, yet I have seen many of my friends choose not to participate. What then are we? What is it that we would be willing to defend?
Only when we work out of a sense of duty to the equality and liberation of our fellow human beings, rather than a sense of guilt or embarrassment, and react to systematic racial injustice regardless of its current level of publicity, rather than only reacting to racial violence which we decide to blame on racism and ignorance of other whites rather than take vivid and interminable responsibility for the much more difficult and honest task of the deconstruction of the system which indoctrinates the individuals on whom we so easily unburden our own
Only when we work out of a sense of duty to the equality and liberation of our fellow human beings, rather than a sense of guilt or embarrassment, and react to systematic racial injustice regardless of its current level of publicity, and stop only consistently reacting to racial violence which we decide to blame on racism and ignorance of other whites rather than take vivid and interminable responsibility for the much more difficult and honest task of the deconstruction of the system which indoctrinates the individuals on whom we so easily unburden our own guilt.
The Hypocrisy of the White Liberal
Call for White Liberal Action
April 4, 2017
One must look for battles within the narratives, hopefully which have yet to be fought.
Liberals call those who take action egotistical so they don't have to feel bad for not taking action.
I'm tired of the dishonesty, I want republicans to come out and say fuck blacks, fuck minorities -- we don't give half a shit if you starve.
And democrats to say, we love you, but we're not going to do very much. We'll try to stop them from fucking you over, but we're not going to do very much to help you progress if the fruition of integration means sending our children to worse schools.
North Vs. South. ---history of racial violence is not restricted to the south
South is doing all this bad shit, and the north stands by that's mostly what we do today
the system is so fucked up, so biased that if you are not talking about radical changes such as equal funding for all public schools, and the possible abolition of private schools, then you aren't talking about real change.
Liberals are so dismissive of power that they -- and sit at home saying "oh, but we're the good white people." I'm done arguing about god, they're wrong, let's move on
What are you at home doing? You got a family? You high? that's fine, but are we gonna change shit or sit around -- because it seems like we're just sitting around -- self-preservation, that's fine but just be honest about it.
I'm fuckin pissed. Let's stop pretending it's enough to sit around at dinner and sound smart -- these endless arguments "who's the best white person" "who won the debate?" "who would have the best polocies?" youre getting fuckin drunk and high and eating dinner! Practiciing recreational political intellectualism. It's having no affect on the system. Liberals have been doing this since the civil rights movement ended and that's why things have barely changed. Don't pretend it's anything more than that.
Where the fuck is the anger? We've been subdued or deceived or misdirected-- the left is failing! We're supposed to be the party of the poor, the true party of jesus--what are the polocies--we argue incessantly and do nothing we're always on the outside because we think it gives us the moral highground. Well it doesn't. IT FUCKING DOESN'T! Who's willing to get they're hands dirty? And who's willing to sit at home thinking watching bill maher, Joe Rogan, John oliver and trevor noah is enough? Thinking "Oh good, I've done my liberal duties!
Who's willing to put their morality to the test?
Oh good, you're smart people! What would I say? Most of these people aren't fighting for the causes. You're dinner table debate isn't affecting Washington. So, you're smart, what are you doing?
At home? this is not a debate of senators we pretend that this discussion is not divorced from the reality of the everyday lives of black and brown people in this country. The level of this discourse is high, but we need to engage more openly in action of politics and policies, of laws and legislation, not just be restricted minor cultural victories like having more TV shows with people of color in them. We need to make sure all public schools have equal funding! Putting a few people in a TV show may make you feel better, but it doesn't solve the root of the issue.
We can't trust the government, we need to do this outside of the system. No! we could trust the government if we abolished corporate interests in politics such as superpacs and the electoral college etc. If we put the right people in the system we have enough people who know how to do shit better than the people who are already there, we just need more people who are willing. Most of us are just either comfortable in our lives, don't believe we can, or believe in this fallacy that it is noble to stay outside the system because seeking any power is self-indulgent and egotistical. or immoral. Well, they're fucking wrong! it is morakl to seek power for the sake of re-empowering the people.
I'm tired of liberals holding each other to this 100% pure standard its this gotcha bullshit that was sexist that was racist. Microaggressions will never go away if we don't change the system! How about instead of shitting on your 95% liberal friend for saying something minorly sexist, you remind everyone you know that the equal rights amendment was never passed federally in the united states of america? Rather than policing each other's language how about we take our frustrations out on the system and produce legistlation that will inherently cause sexism to dissipate. Your friend being shitty is shitty, but a cis white dude making one of color comment isn't the problem. The problem is that the constitution still only says "All men are created equal." That is something we can change!
How about instead of complaining about how stupid and racist certain parts of the country are, how about we start teaching civics again! And finally desegregate?
